How To Do A Manual
The manual is similar to a wheelie, but is currently a more fashionable BMX trick. It is basically a coasting wheelie, and is the perfect starting point for your repertoire of BMX moves. Jason Forde of Team Extreme shows us how to do a Manual.
Step 1: Pull up
A manual is performed just as a classic wheelie, but rather than peddling, you simply coast.
First off, pull up gently on the handlebars as you ride along. This needn't be too forceful.
Ensure you keep your weight even on either side of the bike to prevent the handle bars from twisting.
Step 2: Shifting weight
At the same time as pulling on the handle bars, transfer your weight over the back wheel so that you are standing on the peddles and your behind is over the rear wheel. This will pull the front wheel into the air.
Step 3: Coasting
Once the front wheel is up, keep the bike balanced at the angle it has reached, and coast forward. Keep as straight as possible to keep your momentum, have your arms slightly bowed but stiff, and your knees bent to provide suspension.
To ride out, simply transfer your weight gently back to the front of the bike.
