How to Do A Perfect Badminton Drop Shot: This video will show you how to perform a perfect backhand overhead drop shot while playing the game of badminton.
Hi, my name's John Webb, I've been a badminton coach for over 15 years and I'm going to show you some tips on how to play badminton. Hi, I'm going to tell you about how to play the perfect backhand overhead drop shot. Now, the idea of a backhand overhead drop shot is that it goes nice and it high falls really short, just comes just over the net, just drops short.
So it comes between the net and first service lines. Now, the key to this is you really want to be aiming for these corners of the court just there, so nothing in this middle but just playing it in these corners, and the idea of this is an attacking shot, but a really good part of this is if you're a more advanced player to put a bit of deception behind the shot so they may think you're playing a clear or a smash and it drops short. The important thing is to play the corners.
So come with me, let me show you how to play the shot. So we're starting off with the backhand grip and your preparation stance is your sideways on the net, the racket is nice and high with the backhand grip so you're turned here, and when the shuttle actually comes to you, you're reaching out with a flat racket face and you're actually just pushing or tapping the shot, and the racket stops there, so you're just playing that and it only goes straight down into the opposite court or you can play it cross court so it only goes down there. So you're basically knee bent, racket back and there, your contacting as high as possible and your pivoting so that you got the shoulder turned in the pivot which is very important.
So you're up here, just a drop shot there and your contact's as high as possible and then the racket and the weight transfers back to your foot and you can move to the middle. So let me just put all of that into a sequence for you. Should be starting here, side stepping racket back, hit up there and coming forward.
It's a really good attacking shot and as I say, go for the corners. You can often hit a winner or set up a winner from this shot. So that was the backhand overhead drop shot. .
