How To Do A Plie Ballet Position

A simple set of instructions with video support can go a long way in teaching you some of the more complicated ballet moves.

Hello, I'm Zoe from South Land Dance Studios in Herdon Hill, and my students are going to demonstrate some ballet movements. We are going to show you how to do a plie ballet position. So we're starting off in first position, facing the bar.

And we're making sure that the spine is lengthened, and the weight is lifted towards the balls of the feet. And were going to bend the knees, bend the knees, pushing the thighs out. Making sure the knees are going over the toes.

And recover, keeping the back straight and keeping the eyes lifted. And let's try again. Demi plie one, and recover two.

Now taking that into a full plie in first position, we do demi plie one, carry on into a full plie letting the heels come off the floor, and recover putting the heels on, making sure the back's straight. And recover to straight legs, pulling the thighs up. Good.

So now were going to try the demi plie in second position. So degage the left leg, 2nd position and lower and again making sure the back is straight, eyes are looking straight forward, and were going to take a demi plie pushing the knees out over the toes. Demi plie one and recover two.

And a full plie in second we leave the heels on the floor and really try to open the hips making a wide position, plie in second and one and two, recover three and four, pulling the thighs up, and stretch the left foot and close back in first.
