How To Do A Swanton Bomb

In this three minute video, you will see step by step instructions on how to do the famous Swanton Bomb move properly, so you can safely go try it out yourself.

Hi guys, my name's James McGranaghan, and I'm the Managing Director of J'amies Gymnastics Academy. Our leading branch is based here, in Beckenham, Southeast London. Today, I'm going to talk you through a variety of videos, all based around the sport of gymnastics, so I hope you will enjoy them.

Hi guys, in today's video, I'm going to teach you how to do a Swanton Bomb. Now, obviously, this is not an orthodox gymnastics move. It has nothing to do with gymnastics and it didn't even really originate from gymnastics.

This was made famous in the early 2000's by a WWE Superstar known as, Jeff Hardy. See, most of you watching this is not going to know who Jeff Hardy is, however, it did originate from on a skill based in gymnastics, and diving as well, to a certain extent, known as the Swallow Dive. So, basically, I'm doing to show you how a Swallow Dive is performed, and then I will turn it into a Swanton Bomb that you might have seen on television.

The Swallow Dive, in gymnastics, is a dive roll, however, it's a real delayed dive roll. So, the idea of the swallow dive, you need the chest and the feet coming up at the same time, and you leave it as late as possible to tuck your head in and roll. You need to make sure, in the Swallow Dive, that your heels continue over the top.

If you don't, you're going to have chest up, heels down, and it could end in absolute disaster. So, you need to make sure, at all times, your heels are driving over the top of your head. The way the Swanton Bomb starts to change a little bit, is that in the second stage, as I'm running up, as I impact onto the spring board for the Swallow Dive, I lift my chest, I open my legs, and I have my hands down by the sides of me.

From this, as I start to impact to the floor, I have no hands to help me. So, the way I need to do it, I need to drive my heels over as fast as I can onto my head, to make sure that my heels hit the mat first. This is going prevent any winding, or injury, so that I'm back on my chest.

So, obviously, let me reiterate to you, this is a WWE kind of move, so, this isn't something that you would traditional see in the gym. So, if I was you, if you are going to try this, please make sure it's in a controlled environment, where it's safe to do so, and you have soft landings. Or, if you're going to do it outside, and you want to try it, then please do it in something like a trampoline, where the impact is soft, and you are not going to injure yourself.

But, basically, that is how the Swanton Bomb was produced, and that is how you do a Swanton Bomb. .
