How To Do A Testicular Self-Exam

We here at VideoJug show how to conduct a testicular self-examination. This is a great video for men, raising awareness about cancer and whilst helping to ensure you stay healthy at the same time.

You Will Need

  • 1 mirror

Step 1:

Examine yourself using a mirror

Using a mirror, examine the scrotum, looking for any lumps on the skin or swellings inside.

Step 2:

Feel for differences between the testicles

Cradle the whole scrotum and testicles in the palm of your hand and feel for any differences between the testicles. One is usually larger and lying lower and this is completely normal.

Step 3:

Check for lumps and swellings

Use both hands and gently roll each testicle between thumb and forefinger, checking for any lumps or swellings. Be aware of heaviness or hardness in part or all of the testicle. Your testicles should be smooth to touch except for the epididymis, which is a soft ‘sausage’ like tube that lies at the top and back of the testicles and carries sperm to the penis.

I am a practicing Urology Physician Assistant in the USA. I also teach PA students in a University setting. I plan to incorporate this short film in my classes that I teach on examination of the Male Genitalia. I found it to be vey professional and informative. Thank you to the team that put this together. Testicular Cancer is very curable if it is found early. Highest risk population: Males age 18-40.

Good advice. Do it often. Take it from someone who now has only one testicle.

Thanks for showing this procddure-- THe urologist doesn't even show you how to do this and they should ALWAYS do that. I had a friend whose grandson died of testicular cancer--had it been found earlier, he might have survived like the son of my best friend did. THANKS>>>ALso, the model was NOT creepy at all I didn't think...he was an average guy with a very average 'package"--this was very professionally done.

Great demo. Just that they should have used a less creepier guy and probably dont have to show his face.

Imortant video for sure being in the health field and also a survivor of testicular cancer, diagnosed at age 35, I found the tumor myself. Ultrasound showed the entire testicle was cancer. Three weeks of radiation and was deemed cured after 18 months of followup. Important to note that there are prosthetics available to replace the removal of the cancerous testicle. Surgery for removal is through the abdomen, not the scrotum. After time lapses for treatment and healing, the prosthetic device is placed also through the abdomen. Advantageous vid

IceAngel and kateistan, you probably haven't seen that many penises or your views are skewed by adult media. If nine men are picked at random, there is a high chance that one will be his size, four will be smaller and four larger than this guy. Jaci, a hard painless lump is the main thing you should look for. But it might also be painful or soft. If there is an abnormality it will be quite obvious so don't get obsessed with it or you will eventually think you are feeling something. Also don't do it more than once a month because if you follow-up gradual changes daily or weekly it will be less noticeable to you.

I'm 18 and in all my life I have never been told how to do this properly. Thank you (the production team) for making this informative, detailed and yet dignified video. Who knows how many lives could be saved from this, eh.
