How To Do A Thigh Stand Stunt In Cheerleading
Wanna show your team spirit and WOW the crowd? Try doing stunts!
And in multiple-base stunting a popular intermediate stunt is the thigh stand!
-
Step 1:
-
Start With A Lunge
-
The bases begin the stunt in lunge positions. Their legs should be bent 90 degrees to create a stable area for the flyer to stand on. The flyer places her hands on the bases' shoulders while standing with her feet together. The spotter stands behind the flyer, legs shoulder width apart, hands on the flyer's waist.
-
Step 2:
-
Jump Up
-
The flyer uses the base's shoulders for support to jump into the pockets of the base's thighs. She locks her legs out , then hits a motion with her arms. The bases' job is to watch the flyer's feet as she jumps in. As soon as the flyer jumps in, the bases wrap their inside arms around the top of the flyers knee. They then use their front arm to hold onto the flyer's shin. This stabilizes the thigh stand. The spotter keeps her hands on the flyer's waist. When the flyer jumps in she helps lift the flyer into the base's thighs.

Step 3:
-
The Walk Off Dismount
-
Now it's time to come down. The bases let go of the flyer's shins, then reach up into a reverse handshake grip - palms up! - to help the flyer down. Their other hand goes under the flyer's armpit to help her slowly get down. The flyer reaches down to grab the base's outside hands and steps down. The spotter helps guide the flyer down from the stunt safely. Luckily, the thigh stand is one of the least dangerous stunts cheerleaders perform.
