How To Do An Elbow Strike
As well as striking with the hands and feet, taekwondo includes a number of different elbow strikes. In this step by step guide Richard Newcombe, instructor with the Taekwondo Association of Great Britain, shows you how to do three elbow strikes.
Top Tips
- In the front elbow strike you start in a walking position; you then bring the arm backwards and swing it forwards, striking your opponent with the outer forearm around the elbow.
- The rear elbow strike is used to strike an opponent behind you. In this move you make contact with the muscles at the bottom of the upper arm and the elbow joint itself.
- An upward elbow strike is similar to the front elbow strike. This move would be used in very close quarters, and the blow would be aimed at the chin or nose.
