How To Do Bas Rutten's Escape From An Opponent's Guard
Mixed martial arts legend Bas Rutten gives a lesson in mixed martial arts on VideoJug. Learn how to use an armbar against your opponent in order escape his guard and position yourself for a submission finish.
Step 1: Arm Fake
You are in your opponent's guard (between his legs). Lay one of your arms on your opponent's chest (fist towards his face).
Step 2: Look Away
Now look away from your arm, like you aren't paying attention at all. This will tempt your opponent to open up his guard in order to put you into a submission.
Step 3: Pull Arm Out
At the moment you look away, the opponent will opens his guard and want to throw his leg over me. As soon as he does, pull your arm out.
Step 4: Side Mount
Once you pull your arm out, go on the ground, and go into a side mount. Now this is a very dangerous position for him because now you can strike and go for a submission.
