How to do Brazilian jiu jitsu moves or BJJ as it's called in its shortened version. Now, Brazilian jiu jitsu can be played with a gi or without a gi but traditionally, it's with the gi, in other words, wearing a suit. We're going to show you a few moves today.

They are basic moves that will score you points in a Brazilian jiu jitsu competition bout. These moves are called transitions and take you from one position into another, using your body weight to clamp your opponent down in place. We're going to take you through the basics, starting in your opponent's guard position and moving around through side control, mount, north south, and we're going to show you how to pass the guard as well.

This position here is called the guard. The first thing you need to do is get past these legs. So, we're going to posture up, pushing down on the lower abdominal region of the opponent.

From there, we're going to look at separating the legs by slipping the arm through, clasping the hands together and using the body weight to shift around, pressing nice and low to your opponent. In this position here which is called side control, we're going to dig the elbows and the knees in nice and tight so that the opponent can't wriggle, turn or move. From there, the opponent's going to naturally guard their leg position so that it makes it difficult for us to hop over.

Use the arm to push the leg down, again coming down underneath the knee, getting really tight and close to the opponent and shifting the leg over, slip the arm out, until you're in a mount position. Sit nice and tight on your opponent so they can't bridge and roll. From here, you can score many points.

But we're going to move again. From the mount position, you'd score points by restraining your opponent. However, if your opponent does manage to bridge and roll you and find yourself at the bottom, in your own guard, it is still possible to win by submission.

Here's an example. Wrap the arm around, trapping the arm nice and straight, slip the other hand up inside the gi and pull tight, getting your opponent to tap for he'd choke. That was how to do Brazilian jiu jitsu moves.

Now, there are plenty of moves that you can learn. The best thing for you to do is get yourself down your local Brazilian jiu jitsu club to learn firsthand on how to execute these moves with precision, safely and effectively. See you next time.
