Feng Shui decorating is really about deciding what you want to attract into your life, what you want the room to do, who it's for, and once you've decided that, setting things up to create the mood and the atmosphere. So, you're looking at the walls, the ceilings, the floors, and the windows, and definitely you're looking at color. You need to be looking with color at what sort of climate you're living in so that you're using warmer tones if you live in the northern hemisphere and in a cooler climate, and you're looking at using cooler tones, the blues, the greens, the whites if you live in a warm Mediterranean sunny climate.

Ideally, what you want to do is you want to have lighting in the corners of the room. What that does is it makes the chi move around. You also want to have the room set up for a daytime scenario and for a night time scenario.

So again, having choices with lighting is really really important. Also, think about what you need on your floors. A lot of people with asthma find that removing all carpets throughout their house makes a really big difference especially if they're old carpets.

So, the question is what do you need your room to do, how is it going to support you, and how are you going to create balance, comfort and harmony there. You want to make sure everything in the room is pleasing to you. When you pick objects for your room, pick things that inspire you, things that make you feel good.

If you're thinking about a living room, this is the ideal place to have family pictures. This is the ideal place to have artwork that you really like. Also, think about your windows.

A lot of people don't like net curtains any more. However, you do want to think about blinds, curtains, this all softens the room. The more soft furnishings you have in the room, the more comfortable it will feel.

So, the message here really is: Who is the room for? What's the mood you want to create? And where do you live? And think about the balance. So, if you have a lot of cool colors, add some fire. If you have a lot of fiery colors to create warmth, just add some cool ones.
