How To Do Feng Shui Interior Design
Feng Shui is a popular form on interior design. This video talks about some the materials that should be used in Feng Shui as well as some basic principles with Feng Shui design.
H,i my name is Sara McAllister. I am the founding director of Feng Shui Agency. I am delighted to give you some general tips but please note they are not substitute for professional Feng Shui consultant advice.
So to give you some basic Feng Shui interior design tips: I recommend you use natural materials and ecological materials where possible. These days it is a huge range of choice in the eco materials. You can use non-toxic paint on the walls.
You can use bamboo flooring. You can use paper tile floors. You can use natural rubber floors.
There is so many eco-materials that you can use. And while this doesn't tap into the technical side of Feng Shui it does tap into the heart of Feng Shui if you like, which is all about designing in harmony with nature. So having all these natural materials around us is really good for us.
It is also healthier okay because many allergies and in fact asthma has been linked back to too many toxins in our environment. Which are released from paints that aren't eco friendly or plastics that are giving off volatile organic compounds. So you need to keep your materials natural.
The other benefit of natural materials is they don't attract too much static and again the electro smog issue is fundamental to our health. Ask any biologist and they will tell you that our cell health is dependent on a good balance between the positive and negative charge. So if you have too much electrostatic in our environment caused by artificial materials then it is going to be attacking our immune system.
If we cope with this over many, many years it actually makes us a little ill. So to have natural materials is not just about being eco friendly it is also about looking after your health. So another way to incorporate Feng Shui into interior design is to use the layouts of the room intelligently and with Feng Shui principles in mind.
So you need to position a sofa or a bed with a solid wall behind it, okay. Don't design a child's bedroom, for instance, with the head in the middle of the room it has been done many of time. I have seen clients invested literally 20 thousand pounds in designing a child's bedroom with all kinds of built in bookcases and t5hings like this and then they have the head in the middle of the room.
It's quite extraordinary. It breeds a sense of insecurity within the child. So make sure wherever you are sitting, relaxing, or trying to sleep, you have a solid wall behind you not a floor to ceiling glass window.
And also remember Feng Shui is all about designing with the human in mind. Don't overdesign that it becomes inaccessible you know doors that are so sleek that you can't find the handle for instance. Just keep it real, keep it accessible for people.
What I particularly enjoy about Feng Shui and interior design is the opportunity to work very closely with the client is too look deeply into their horoscope and select colors that support not only the Feng Shui influences the direction but also the elemental requirements in terms of their horoscope. .
