This video talks about how cook popcorn
Hi there! I'm Matt from the underground cookery school. And today I'm going to do a video cookery lesson for you. Well today I'm going to show you how to make popcorn which is very simple and lots of fun.
Makes a pop sound- corn. I'm going to take some vegetable oil, and just throw it into a pan and rub that vegetable oil all the way around the base of the pan and what's going to happen is, let's get rid of that. Sling that down there.
Stick that on the hob. You want the oil to come up to a reasonable temperature and you also need a pan that's got a lid. I've got these popcorn kernels from a good supermarket and if i stick the lid on I'm going to turn the heat down a little bit ‘coz it is quite hot in there and within 2 or 3 minutes the corn will start popping.
Now, the reason it works is or the reason corn pops, is you've got a very hard outer shell that locks all the moisture in and inside the pine kernel you've also got a very thick layer of protein so what happens when the oil comes up to the appropriate temperature, because the outer skin of the kernel is so hard there's nothing, there's nowhere for the moisture to go so the pressure just builds up and the it starts popping. Now, i can hear it but you might not be able to. We're just going to let that cook through for about another minute and a half or really until it's ready and then we'll come back and have a look inside and I'm just going to take that off the heat and there you have, i mean it's a miracle isn't it.
Can you imagine the first time they did this in America because that's where they discovered it, they must have gone holy mother of god. And very popular during the great depression and also with cinema (sounds like: girls)I I'm not sure if that's related but there is how you cook popcorn and now obviously at this point you can add a topping of your choice. Traditional flavors would perhaps be salt or sugar.
