How To Do Ripple Stitch

Crocheting a ripple stitch is easier than you might think. In this step by step guide Bee Clinch, crochet and craft instructor at Makedomenders, shows you how to make a multi-coloured ripple design using double crochet and trebles.

You Will Need

  • 1 crochet hook
  • yarn, different colours

Method

Start with a chain, then double crochet to the end of the row. When you get to the last double crochet of the row, at the stage when you have the 2 loops on the hook, instead of finishing with the yarn you were using, take the next colour of yarn you want to use and finish the stitch with the new yarn.

The next row will start with trebles, so do a turning chain of three chains. Do three trebles into the next three stitches, then 5 double crochet stitches. From here on continue alternating 5 trebles and 5 double crochet. Finish with 2 trebles, which with the first 3 of the row make it up to a multiple of 5.

Do another row of the same sequence, then another row of double crochet in a new colour of yarn.
