How To Do Situps
Sit-ups are a great way of working on your ab muscles, and a great start to having a well-toned body. Here are a few quick and easy steps in this presentation that will have you well on your way to having those great looking abs.
I'm going to show you a few ways on how to do sit-ups. First, sit up straight, have your feet underneath a sofa if you're at home, or if you're in a gym, underneath a bar. It stops your feet from flying away, and you can concentrate on the ab muscles, technically the rectus abdominis, which are the muscles which you work when you do a sit up.
Now, the most basic way of doing a sit-up, sit up straight, put your hands across your chest, slowly go down, and slowly come up. Repeat this process a number of times, and when I come up, I'm trying to keep my back flat. I'm not curling in, this is very bad for your back, and it is a very old-fashioned way of doing it.
So, always keep your back straight. It also strengthens your back as well, so it's a very good exercise for this. Now, for a lot of you, this will be a bit too easy, so you can make it a bit harder.
There are a few ways of doing this. Firstly, you can hold a weight, I'll put 10 kilos which is about right if that's a bit too easy for you, hold it next to your chest, slowly going down, and slowly coming up. That's about 20 percent harder.
You can go harder still by holding the weight behind your neck. This is about twice as hard as the original sit-up. I have one more variation for you, using a ball.
Now, a ball is good because you can have a bigger range of movement. Just as in a bicep curl, if you want to get the arms big, you'll go all the way down and all the way up, it is the same with the abs, if you want to work them fully, you'll need a full range of movement and using a ball allows you to do this. I'll sit on the edge of the ball; I'll slowly go down all the way so I'm stretching my abs out, then slowly come up.
This is the most advanced and best way of doing sit-ups, and that's some tips on how to do sit-ups. .
