Videojug and Zoe from South London Dance Studios teach you the basics of fondu - in ballet, that is! You will learn the basics and the French terms that will have you learning this beginning dance move in a true form and classic manner!
Hello! I'm Zoe from South London Dance Studios in Herne Hill and my students are going to demonstrate some ballet movements. We're going to show you a fondu in ballet dancing. So, we're starting in third position with the arm in bras bas.
Fondu means "to melt" so we're going to bend, or melt on the supporting leg and the working leg is going to lift off the floor in a flexed position. And, fondu, and extend avant a terre, which means "on the floor." And then we do another fondu bringing the working leg back into a flexed position and extend to second.
And we'll do a fondu with the working leg at the back, melting into that leg and stretch derriere. And one more. Fondu and stretch to second, and close.
So that was a fondu a terre. We can also do a fondu en l'air which means "in the air." So, take the arm to second and degage the leg to second.
And the fondu position is now with a stretched foot on the middle of the shin. And, fondu and we stretch en l'air to forty-five degrees. Stretch both legs together and fondu and again, stretch both legs together.
And fondu to the back and stretch both legs together. And fondu, and stretch both legs together and close. So we're melting on the supporting leg and then we're trying to extend and stretch both legs together.
Let's try that one more time. En l'air so degage onto second. We'll take three counts to bend.
And one, two, three, stretch, two, three. Bend, two, three, stretch, two, three. Fondu, two, three.
Stretch the legs together and bend, two, three. Stretch, two, three and close. If you want to find out more information about our ballet classes or our other dance classes - tap, modern and street jazz, please visit our website. .
