The written instructions don't match the video, first step should be strike the first string open, the last should be strum up not down.

I learned this lick as he was playing it. -- But I'm not new to guitar. To learn more about what to do with this lick, or why it 'works' as music, check out a simple blues scale and you'll see those notes are part of it and can be played anywhere on the fretboard. You gotta bend that note up a whole step!

Besides, why does this site automatically keep me from swearing? Seems kinda wrong to me. If I say something, I mean it... And I stand by it.

This vid is, politely expressed, bulls**t. It takes a lot of practice to develope a "tone" in one's fingers to make a guitar sound good. And one gets out of practice pretty fast. Anyone who really trusts his ears can tell a real guitarist from a fake one by a few notes. Miles Davis even claimed he just had to look at a guitarist's fingers to tell whether he got tone in his fingers.(Though I personally think he might have been bragging a bit)

So this is for if you want to look "cool" or whatever for a few seconds but you don't really know how to play? There's a lot of things you can do to get the effect. For one put the amp on overdrive or up the distortion (but not too loud), this will mask your lack of skill and impress the easily impressed. =) Now you should learn a couple of scales, or even just one. Then just mess around with it move up and down the neck of the guitar, use your intuition and throw in a few bends if you want for some flare. If there's a whammy bar end with that and hold it out...instant coolness!

    That's a really unhelpful video.

Nice quality video seems to be more important than content. On screen text gets in way off shot.

Nice little E minor pentatonic riff.. Its also important to know that the riff illustrated there can be moved around the fret board.
