How To Do The Twins Card Trick

Tell your participant that you are going to predict two cards that they will pick. In this case it's the jack of hearts and the 10 of clubs. Tell your participant to deal out a number of cards from the top of the deck until she's comfortable to stop. At this point, place in your first prediction card face up in the deck. Tell her to put the rest of the deck on the top of her stack. Now tell her to deal down some more cards from the top of the deck, again until she wants to stop. Explain to her that this is a free choice. Place your second prediction card face up on the deck and tell her to put the rest of the deck on top of her stack. Now ask her to make one complete cut of the deck.

Now go through the deck to find the first face up prediction card. the card next to it is the one she picked. Lay both cards on the table. Do likewise with the second prediction card and the second card she picked. Lay both cards on the table. Now turn over her selected cards to reveal that it is the twin of your prediction. Do the same with the second card, and watch your audience marvel ... and perhaps fall in love.

Step 3: How it's done

For this trick you need to know the identity of the bottom card or, as it's also known, 'le carte derriere' and then find its twin in the deck. We're using the jack of hearts. This will be your first prediction card. You will also need to sneak a peak at the top card and find its twin in the pack. We'll be using the ten of clubs. This will be the second prediction card. From this point in the trick is self working.


When your audience member deals down she's unknowingly putting the top card into position. We'll come back to this in a moment. The face up prediction card is placed in and when she puts your deck on top of her stack, what she's actually doing is placing the bottom card which you know, on top of it's twin. Now she deals down again, places in the second prediction card. When she puts the deck back together, she places the 10, which is now at the bottom, on top of the face up prediction card. Now ask her to make one complete cut of the deck. All that's left for you to do is to go through the deck, find the face up cards, and her cards will be on top of them. Lay both cards on the table. Do likewise with the second prediction card and the second card she picked.


Now turn the cards over, and trick is complete.
