Illustrator Mik Brown will show you how to draw a cartoon fish with simple shapes and creativity. Cartooning made easy for people of all ages!
Hi, my name's Mik, Mik Brown, at miko-cartoon.com. I'm a cartoonist, and I'm going to show you how to draw some cartoons.
That sound fun? I'm going to show you how to draw a cartoon fish. I've got a fish here that I thought would be a very simple thing to draw, start you off with two circles. That would be a good idea.
I'm running out of paper here but add another circle on the back and I've created the fin. As you see, I darken those, and I've created a fin. Triangle here, and another fin I guess, maybe we will just put it on the top and the bottom, and big round eyes.
Let's put them together. They are both on, one on one side of the face, one on the other side of the face, but hey we're cartoonists, we can do what we like. Then let's put some long eyelashes on, which of course a fish doesn't have.
We can put some lips on this one. Big smile. Lips.
Actually let's make that back. I've dropped a bit and I'm going to make that longer as well. But that's the basic shape, the two rounds, the three rounds don't forget, bring in another round there.
Ink those in now. Starting at the top side up so much, oops I've altered that one, doesn't matter, let's make it even bigger, why not? It's a bit strange, it's okay, I'm going to start right there, back fin, then start at this circle, go around as you are drawing the eyes, and fill it right in. Just match the circle.
I'm not going to draw the ink in that pencil line, a little servitude on his eye joining. There's big difference when you experiment, you can draw the pupils tiny or big or whatever, and it makes a big big difference to the character. But just experiment, you see, play around.
And the more you draw these cartoons, the better you'll get, that's for sure. Just practice and it's fun. There we go.
That's not enough shade there. This is the great thing about this brush pen, because you can make thick and thins out of it. Thick to thin.
Thick to thin. Thick to thin. Which creates a nice bit of light and shade.
Thick lips. Of course, fish don't have lips but as far as I'm concerned, they do. How about that? Then we'll try and go for another fin here.
Let's join that one there. There we go. Darken up that.
Oops I've got to finish that. Just another piece of shade, that's all. I think that's about it.
We can ignore that. That's how you draw a cartoon fish. .
