How To Draw A Spider

How to draw a spider? You will need a rubber and a pencil. This is actually a pencil I am using here. Okay, let's start.

We need to create an oval and then we need a connecting oval that is a little bit larger, like so, half-moon shape at the top, like so, and these are all guides. We can get rid of these at a later stage. Then, the next step, inside our half-moon, we need a shape like this and a shape like this, and two little bumps in the middle.

They don't have to be perfect. They don't have to be symmetrical. In fact, it's far better; if they are not, it is a sort of a hinge here and then another one about here and then, the leg tapers towards the end.

Now, we can sort of make some guides for the markings on the spider so again, you might need a reference for this to get the markings right but we are just going to draw them roughly for the moment and we can make them look more detailed later. We finish off these sections here. They come over and down.

Okay, now, we can start adding a bit of shading. Obviously, you could do this in colour but if you are just doing a pencil sketch, you can just shade in here. Decide which way you want the light to be.

I'm going to have the light come this way so I'm going to shade in this edge on each of the legs. And there is your spider. .
