How To Draw Anime Boys
This VideoJug film shows you a general method of how to draw a boy in manga style. Illustrator Laura Watson shows you how to draw two different characters, one confident and one a bit more reserved. Basic posture and proportions are covered.
Hi, my name is Laura Watton, my website is pinkapplejam.com, I am the co-founder of Sweatdrop Studios, and I've been illustrating in manga style for almost fifteen years. This demonstration is going to show you how to draw a manga boy.
Rough out the proportions, I'm going to draw him about seven heads tall. I'm also going to draw a kind of - a positive pose, so I'm going to use some sweeping lines to denote his pose. Positive, you might stand with your shoulders, your chest puffed out, your shoulders back, a pose-y sort of leg stance, so I'm going to draw one leg in front of the other.
It's quite comical, I don't think this chap takes himself too seriously, I think I'm going to make him into a bit of a sports hero. So as you can see from my very rough pencils, this line kind of denotes the spine, the puffing out of the chest, and the back shoulders. If I was going to draw a not so confident character, I think I would draw a slightly cowering character, perhaps he's reading a book or something, and he doesn't want to be disturbed.
Or maybe he's being picked on and he just doesn't want to talk to anyone who knows. So this sort of drooping stance would not denote a confident character, it would denote kind of a not very cheerful character at all. His head will be held up high, so the cross hair, I'm going to do implies that he's looking up.
He doesn't have a high maintenance hair cut, so I'm going to give him some usual manly spikes. He is completely absorbed in reading his book. Okay.
There's two examples, really, how to draw a manga boy. .
