Hi, my name is Laura Watton. My website is Pinkapplejam.com.

I am a co-founder of Sweatdrop studios and I've been illustrating in manga style for almost fifteen years. Now I'm going to show you how to draw some manga hairstyle for boys, I think. The boys' haircuts are similar in style, I think.

You can have long, short, just depends really on the nature of the character, I think. You could have a very bookwormy character, I am going to draw him with glasses to be awfully stereotypical. He will have a very sensible haircut with a slightly floppy fringe.

So again, his parting is this side of his head. So I'm going to imagine all the hair sprouting but simplified, using the line drawing. So his fringe will be a little bit like this.

Perhaps flicking up a little bit at the end, maybe he needs to use a bit of gel himself, who knows, too busy reading books, I think. Then I'm going to give him some sideburns, which obviously we wouldn't give a girl. Just by a couple of lines down the side.

And his hair is cut quite short, so we can start tapering it off using thin brush strokes. There's the book that he's reading too. Something interesting.

Okay. Another chap, I am going to give a punk haircut. I think I'm going to draw a mohawk.

So, this is his face where I think his eyes would be. The centre of the skull I think, would be about here. And his mohawk, you have to think in three dimensions, even though you're doing a two dimensional drawing.

Where would that reach? How high can this mohawk go? Giving him quite a high mohawk. And again you don't have to draw every strand but you can add detail to imply. This chap has quite thin hair, but it's all spiked up quite straight.

Again, little flippy brush strokes to imply each strand of hair. You can emphasize, even though this bit will be bald, you won't have to draw any hair on there. You can imply where the hair was going, again using little strokes, but leave all this area blank.

Grr. Okay. And the last chap, I'm going to give him a pony tail.

Okay. Again, roughing out where the details might be. I am going to draw his hair from about here.

So he's got no fringe, so again I'm going to draw roughly where I think the hair would be growing from. There, a little over his shoulder. I believe a pony tail should stop about here, under the back of the skull.

So I put the knot there and again you can go on that, depending on how long or how short you want your chap's ponytail to be. Okay, so there are three haircuts for boys.
