How To Draw Embarrassed Manga Face

Hi, I'm Kyle. I'm an illustrator and I'm going to take you through some tips on drawing manga and chibi. Okay, I'm going to show you how to draw a manga face and I'm going to show you how to draw embarrassed expression.

Right, so just to start out with, I've got the basic head there just drawn out, I've kind of drawn out before a nice big circle. Line, line, it's just about where the middle ear is going to be and your eye line, the center of the face and just think about where the neck's going to meet the base of the skull just at the back there. Okay, so this is the part where the nose comes out here and probably just the mouth.

Don't worry about too much at this point. It's just mapping things out. I'm just going to draw in where the eyes are going to be.

Don't worry too much, remember it's about eyes, which between the eyes, it is nicely in proportion. Okay, so just really think about what the face does when you're embarrassed here. Take on your reference, draw people, draw yourself, have a little mirror alongside when you're drawing.

Okay, so I'm just going to start with the lower eyelid, which actually raises a little bit. It's actually put curved rather than a downward one. And the upper eyelid, it will be quite big here and also look more of a female character.

These drawn parts here would either be a male or a female character, and I'm getting pretty nonspecific here while the gender is you can play as you want. Okay, so I got the eyes more or less marked out there. I'm actually going to have the pupils and the iris after deciding a little bit.

Look at this character, it does not quite want to meet your gaze, obviously done something wrong. I'm just mapping just where things are going to be at this point. Start sorting out your guidelines and things like that and just a little shadow just so you know where the nose sits on the face.

You can do with a bit more detail, draw it from life a bit more if you life but just for the sake of this, we'll paint it simple. Okay, so let's now give this character a little embarrassed smile. You might recognize that sort of expression if you watch a lot of anime or really love manga.

So, it's really quite thin, it's almost triangular, and that's all shaped now. We're going to push where the eyebrows go here, a little curve in just to look again, still there's a smile on the face but the character knows it's done wrong, obviously. While I just put a little line on the side there.

Sometimes, it's a little more like a comedy based anime or manga sort of stuff, you might see it when someone's really embarrassed or just really happy, and the mouth actually, I'll just draw on this side here, becomes that sort of shape. That could work with this, but for now, I'm just going to keep that little embarrassed smile. Just a little line in there just helps that work sometimes.

I'm just going to put in a little bit of shading, nothing too tight, just little lines showing the character's a bit of a blush and obviously knows, like I said, done something wrong. So those are nice arching eyebrows there. I'm just going to start tightening now with the pencil.

You might notice if you recall a lot of manga, watch a lot of anime, they all think sweat drop comes down when the character's all embarrassed or just showing that they're not feeling too good about a situation. I'm just going to bring that down, it can be as big or as small as you like, obviously within reason. I'm just going to draw a little one that comes down.

It may be that just flat and graphic or shade this if you like. With the same direction as here eyes down there, I'm just going to draw a bit of a shine to it and shade the rest of it. Let's tighten up a little bit more.
