How To Draw Lightning

Hi. I am Simbie Yau. I am an illustrator.

I graduated from the University of Lincoln. Today, I am just going to be showing you how to draw objects. I am going to now demonstrate how to draw lightning.

I would draw several lightning to demonstrate how you would proceed them really. The general lightning that everyone sees is the basic sharp edge one. So if you could draw at an angle, just a general zigzag shape is fine.

I am just drawing this out roughly in pencil. See you can work out what you would like to do next. As you come close to the base of the drawing, just narrow the lines together.

This is how, I use a flat pen to define, just, you can see the general zigzag shape. And then another line far apart and then coming closer as we go to the bottom of the drawing, like so. So that is a simple lightning.

But if you want a little bit more effective, you know, you can use a general zigzag line and let the lightning branch out. Because there are all sorts of different shapes that you can get from the lightning. You know, draw something a little bit rough and I will demonstrate how will this come together.

Just, let the lightning branch out, like this, quite thin and then branch off into different sections like this. You can experiment with the shapes, there is no right or wrong way. There is never the same lightning.

So you can just play around them. There is branch off here, like so. You know, you can always add more to this by drawing a cloud or you can just simply just draw a cloud like so.

I would draw the lightning bolts starting from near the center of the cloud and just use general curve shapes to make up a cloud shape, like so. So this is how I would draw a lightning bolt. .
