How To Draw Squidward

Hi, my name is Jamie Sale. I'm a freelance cartoonist from Essex and I'm going to be teaching you how to draw cartoons. This is how you draw Squidward, from Spongebob Squarepants.

Firstly, you'll start with his head shape, which is kind of an oblong shape and angled. Then we draw bit like a mushroom, if you like, so this is going to represent the middle of face. Then we're going to draw him smiling so he needs to have big cheeks, and draw circles for the cheeks there if it helps, and just kind of make them in sort of concave angles.

Next thing we do is add in his eyes, they're pretty big, so they take up most of his head. His next eye kind of bulges outwards, so don't worry if you draw outside the circle of his head. He's got a giant great big nose that goes downwards, like that.

Then from the nose, he has the smile, which goes pretty much right to the end, and it's tipped up. The circles just represent a guide, so don't use them specifically. Like for example here, it doesn't go all the way there, it needs to come in a little bit.

For his eyes, he's got quite heavy eyelids in this instance. His pupils are sort of shaped like that. Now, you add the detail to his eyelids.

This line kind of overlaps both his eyelids so it needs to come as a straight line like that, just pencil in the shape of his forehead a bit harder so it's defined. You add any extra parts of his head which is three lines right there. This is little dots on his head like that.

Next, we draw his neck. Just like that and now his shoulders. He has a shirt so you have to draw his collar.

It'll take a little bit of practice before you get it, but once you do, it'll look great. And that is how you draw Squidward. .
