How To Draw Wings

Hi, I am Simbie Yau.I am an illustrator who graduated from the University of Lincoln. Today, I am going to be showing you how to draw objects.

I am going to start to draw a basic wing. I am just going to outline it with a pencil. And what I normally do is draw it in three parts.

First of all, I will draw in some detail on the first part of the wing,which is closest to the arm. I will probably draw a rough guideline to where the second part would be. Then add the detail.

Kind of narrow it down as you go to the base of the wing. So for the third part, draw a rough guideline just generally to add to the shape of the wing and you can just make them a little larger than the second part, and make a small point at the end of each feather. In the moment, I am drawing the wings at the straight edge.

I can extend it a little bit further to add a little bit more shape in the wing to make it a little bit more natural. You can use these wings generally for any animal you know which has wings. We can add it to a horse or a person if you want to,for angel wings.

And this time, I am just narrowing it down to the base like that. So now, to take this further, I am going to finalize the drawing, by drawing over with black pens. I am using a thick pen.

And I should draw this, being a bit more lenient with the lines you have drawn in the first place with your pencil marks. And I am going to use a thinner pen right now, and that is the detail. With the wings you just drew, you notice the different various shapes and these three sections are the representations of these sections.

And these are just half, semicircle shapes I am adding, and it's relatively simple to draw. Yes, so that will be the first part, and I will be just using the pencil line underneath. Generally, if I want to fill this in with color, I would scan this and manipulate it on Photoshop or something, and use all sorts of colors.

It can be very adventurous or very simple. You can use whatever you want to use. Also, I will probably apply simple basic watercolors before or after the ink drawings.

So if you would use general splashes of colors over your pencil drawing and draw over with your black fineliner, it can be very effective. And if you want to use these wings to add on the person or you know just a photograph or anything, you can just be very playful with it. So just adding the final touches, and this is how you draw a wing.
