How To Dress For Pear Shaped Body

A fashion stylist shares some tips on how to flatter the pear shaped figure.

Hi. I'm Zoe Lem, stylist and owner of My Sugarland, and today I'm going to give you some insider's tips on how to do fashion. Three body shapes: we've got hourglass, pear shaped and straight up and down.

Hourglass, nipped in at the waist, shoulders and hips in line, so it's about going with your curve and celebrating that shape. So, nipping in and going for either pencil shape or you can get an A-line but balancing out on the shoulders with a little bit of width in the shoulder. Straight up and down, you've got shoulders and hips up in line but no nip in through the waist so we're going to fake it.

We're going to add attention to this hip. You've got this pocket here that adds over the hip and makes you look bigger through the hip. But you've got the shoulders so it's balancing through the shoulders, balancing through the hips and creating this waist.

I'm now going to show you how to dress for pear shapes. So, the pear shaped figure is bigger hips and smaller through the shoulders. Most women think that it's about having smaller bust, that's not the case.

It's about having smaller shoulders. If you're smaller busted, it doesn't matter. You can still be an hourglass or straight up and down.

You need to imagine yourself as a rectangle and this is smaller than this. You want to nip in at the waist so you're highlighting the waist and again aim for an A-line skirt. A lot of pear shapes have a smaller bust so you can keep the neckline higher.

But if you haven't, keep the neckline lower. You want to balance out the shoulders so you bring in the attention back to your shoulders, whether it's in a jacket, gathering on the shoulders or darker colour on the shoulders, you're bringing that balance back. By keeping the A-line skirt wider, it means that you don't see what's underneath and you're creating the balance and hiding the bits you don't like.

That's how to dress for a pear shaped figure. .
