Whiskey is a very broad category. Whiskey can be made anywhere in the world.
We've got single malt, blended scotches, Canadian whiskeys, Irish whiskeys, American whiskeys, even Japanese whiskeys. I'm going to focus tonight on scotch. Scotch has a lot of very strict laws regarding it.
It has to be made in Scotland. It has to be made for or rest for three years at least in Scotland otherwise it's not. Almost all scotches are going to rest for a lot longer than that.
The difference between a blended scotch and a single malt scotch, for example, is that a blended scotch can be made with any number of different whiskeys and it can also have some grain whiskey included. Now this one doesn't but it can have. Scotch can tend to be drunk neat.
It can be drunk with ice, it can be drunk with water, or it can be drunk in cocktails. Anyway, what you prefer is your personal taste. That's how you drink whiskey.
