How To Dry Herbs
This is an introduction to drying herbs and how the process is done.
Hi, my name's John from Growing Life, London, UK urban and indoor gardening specialist. So, we're going to talk briefly about how to dry herbs. The process of drying, obviously in terms of removing the water, we need to, it's best done through adding a little bit of heat to our harvested herb plants or herb combined with an air ventilation or air circulation.
So, the heat will evaporate the water content from the plant and then the ventilation will remove the evaporated water from the plant. Here we have a drying station which is commonly used at home and it's useful for drying a variety of herbs and because of its capacity, it can do a reasonable volume of herbs at only one time. Now, in terms of what we have fitted, there's a fan at the back and not that you can see it but there's a small garden heater which is cased at the bottom.
With most herbs, you'll know when they're dry when the plant material becomes brittle and crisp to the touch. At this point, we want to remove the dried herb from the drying station and transfer to an airtight container whether it be a preserving jar or a heat-sealed pouch. My name is John from Growing Life, London and that was a brief introduction on how to dry herbs. .
