How To Dye
This video is gives an overall glimpse into the world of fabric dyeing, providing a summary of the different techniques and types of dyes in the world of garment dyeing.
Hi. I'm Turguy Mustafa. I've been doing garment dyeing for the last 26 years for Prestige Fashion Dyers, and today, I'm going to be giving you some tips about tie-dye and garment dyeing.
Well, yes. First of all, we are actually garment dyers instead of cloth dyers, so we actually buy garments, and when the garments come in, they come in either white or in a raw state. We actually check the cloth to see if it's got any sizing on it, what we call the starch on the cloth, so that will be actually - once it's analyzed, it will be put into the sample machine, it will have the necessary treatment to it, and afterwards, it will be dyed into the colors they want.
We actually specialize in cotton dyes, with cottons and silk, or let's say a mixture, but mostly being cotton. There are three types of dyes, obviously. What we call acid dyes, dispersed dyes, direct dyes; four types of dyes, really, with the reactive dyes.
We specialize in what we call direct dyes. They are dyed about 80 to 90 degrees. The silk is done with acid dyes, and that's about 80 to 90 again, and that is actually how we actually dye the garments. .
