Chips and Britain, two words that go together so well. And one could almost say that, “Chips are our national dish.” But eating too much of any food can have a devastating impact on our waistline. In fact, almost half of men and a third of women are overweight. So what can we do to avoid this? Here's dietician and nutritionist, Jane Clarke to give us some pointers.
Step 2: Making chips healthy
To get the benefits of what we eat, we need to look at the types of food we eat and also how we cook it. There are some simple ways that we can actually ensure that we are getting the maximum benefit from our diet.
The first one, when you are frying when it comes to chips is to make sure that you use good, healthy, oil, that when you cooked your chips, you shake off the excess fats before you attack into them.
The second tip is when you are making your chips, just take your large potato and cut it into good, old, thick, chunky chips because you got a less surface area around the chip and it means that you are not getting too much fat on your chip.
My third top tip is to choose a product that helps you get the maximum benefit from the food that you are eating. Fringe have certain types of fryer which has managed to come up with the combination of slightly steaming the potato within a chip and also then just coating it with a lovely crisp fat.
Step 3: Enjoy your chips.
So at the end of the day you actually are getting a chip that only has 3% fat. And you have got to look for easy, simple ways that people can reduce their fat intake without compromising flavor because I think we forget that actually fat carries a lot of favor within it.So I think we got to come up with simple solutions that people can easily do and still enjoy their food.So now there you go, now you don’t have any excuses at all because at dinner time and you want a big plate of this you won’t end up having to wear a big pair of these.
