How To Eat Mussels
Mussels are a popular dish in many areas of the world. Watch the VideoJug guide on how to select, prepare and eat mussels. After this video, this French delicacy won't seem too intimidating to eat.
Step 1: Prepare
Only mussels that are tightly closed should be eaten – discard any that have opened. Before cooking them, scrape off any barnacles and rinse them under cold water. Mussels can be cooked in many different ways, but for this film we are simmering them for about 5 minutes in a hot pan with white wine, crushed garlic, chives and a squeeze of lemon juice.
Step 2: Eat
Because of the way it is hinged, an empty mussel shell makes a handy implement for eating mussels with. Simply pick the mussels out of their shells by pinching them with end of the empty shell, and then pop them in your mouth. Discard empty shells in a separate bowl, and also use a finger bowl of warm water and lemon to rinse your fingers during the meal. Bon appétit!
