Hi, my name is Ghamza Jacobs. I am an IT trainer with New Horizons in London. I'm here today just to show you a couple cool little tips and tricks on Windows 7 and Office 2010.

How to edit data using Microsoft Excel. Many people using Microsoft Excel have problems editing data. One of the key points you need to remember with Microsoft Excel is when you select a particular cell, a selection is just one click.

Now, to make changes, for example, if I wanted to change month to “mon” I could simply select the cell with the month by simply clicking on it and then type in “mon.” Enter. And it replaces the cell.

One of the most handy keyboard shortcuts that you are ever going to come across in your life is the one for Undo. Let's say, now I entered “mon,” I should have left it as month. Control Z is the keyboard shortcut for undo.

Undo is also available in 2010 and 2007 right on the top on what we call the quick access tool bar. So that was undo. Alright, so if you accidently entered something, I'm feeling a bit rough this morning, not feeling myself.

I accidently select and hit delete. Control Z. Undo.

So that's a very handy keyboard shortcut for anything. Now, as I mentioned you single click to select. Look what happens when I double click.

It takes me into edit mode on the cell. Notice I have the insertion “I” over there. So I could place this on an exact position and use my delete key to delete and then hit enter.

I can undo that quickly using my nice new keyboard shortcut. Another way of course is just to type over it, especially enter. I find that's the best way.

Select yourself. If you want to edit the data or manipulate the data, you can just double click on the cell and go straight into the position and delete or backspace. So as you notice, what is happening there if I double click delete, it deletes data, but pulls data towards the insertion I.

Your backspace moves the insertion I backwards and replaces the data. Another important tip here. If you are looking to delete cells in Microsoft Excel, many people and many computer users hit backspace to delete.

Backspace takes you into edit and deletes the data. A much better way for deleting is simply to hit the delete key on your keyboard. That removes the data and allows you to move freely and does not take you into edit mode.

Another key method to edit data within Microsoft Excel is using the formula bar at the top. Remember I said you can double click over here. Takes you into the insertion bar and gives you the insertion I.

So remember, important single click to select. You can simply type over a cell to replace the information or double click takes you into edit mode and gives you the insertion “I” allowing you to go to a particular portion of that text. That was how to edit data in Microsoft Excel. .
