How To Embellish Skirts

You can decorate skirts and other clothes with beads, buttons and patches from haberdashery stores or make your own unique embellishments. In this VideoJug film, fashion designer and sewing expert Miss Libby Rose shows you how to embellish a plain skirt with a handmade bow and applique flowers.

You Will Need

  • fabric scraps
  • buckle
  • scissors
  • glue gun or fabric glue

Method

To make the bow, cut small piece of fabric into a rectangle, approximately 19cm x 29cm. Fold the two longer sides in on themselves. Slide the buckle into the middle the fabric.

Attach the bow to a skirt using a glue gun, fabric glue or by hand stitching. If using glue, place a weight on top of the bow to hold it in place while the glue dries. Do the same with the applique flowers.
