How to enjoy your job? Hi there, welcome to this video where I'll share with you some top tips for making your job more enjoyable. I'm a career coach at Ginger Training and Coaching, so that means that everyday, people come to me who want to find a different job that's more fulfilling. And often in the process of investigating their job likes and dislikes, we find out that they don't need to change their job at all.
They just need some tips about enjoying their job more. You may have heard the story of a prince who once went to check the building of his new palace. He passed three stone masons on the site that they build and asked each one of them what they were doing.
The first grumbled, I'm just moving these stones and it's heavy work, and I hate it. The second said I'm building something my family can be proud of. And the third said I'm building the most beautiful palace the world has ever seen.
Our three stone masons all have the same job, but the way that they looked at their job affected how much they enjoyed it. Ask yourself this, would you rather be moving stones or building a palace? Here are three ways to change your view of your job. One, connect yourself to something meaningful in your job.
One of my favourite clients is a council tax officer. Everyday, he used to go into work and experience angry people and boring jobs without seeing any meaning in what he was doing. To him, it was just another dull admin job.
Then when he thought about it, he realized how crucial the job of a council tax officer is. Without him, we would have less tax to contribute to build schools, hospitals and so on. He even came up with the idea of calling himself an involuntary charity fundraiser.
Go to work with an attitude like that and how much more do you think you'll enjoy your job. How can you connect with what you do at work? How can you connect that to something that's meaningful to you? What is the job allowing you to do that's meaningful and who you benefit by working there? Two, see yourself progressing. It's important to see yourself going somewhere in the job, so notice what you're becoming good at because of your job.
What skills and experiences do you have now that you didn't have when you started that job? Focus on the positives of your progression and you will enjoy your job more. Three, act to help others. If you're any good at math, you'll notice that you are one person and the others around you are countless.
So if you're struggling to enjoy your day, find a way to help somebody else whether it's a colleague, a client, even a person on the street. You'll probably know from experience that if you act to help others, you'll forget about your own negative feelings, you'll collect new feelings of being useful and positive. So that's my three top tips for enjoying your job.
Connect yourself to something meaningful in your job, see yourself progressing and act to help others.
