How To Enter Miss UK

Hi. I am Liz Fuller. I am the new boss at Miss Great Britain and a previous winner from 1997 and for the last 13 years, I have been working as a TV presenter and producer at ITV and Channel 5.

Today though, I am going to be giving you advice on the beauty pageant world. So, you want to know how to enter Miss United Kingdom. Okay, firstly there needs to be some clarity between Miss Great Britain and Miss United Kingdom, two separate pageants.

Miss Great Britain, we know is the oldest pageant in the UK, started in 1945, there's been regional heats that lead to a national final, that's always been the same. Miss United Kingdom was started, I believe sometime in the 50's and that always used to have the same process, regional heats, regional Misses that would come to a national final. And that winner of Miss United Kingdom used to go into Miss World.

In the last decade or so, Miss World changed that, and now the girls that go in Miss World are four different Misses. So it's Miss Scotland, Miss England, Miss Northern Ireland and Miss Wales. Again the process to become those titles, exactly the same, regional heats, so for instance for Miss Wales, there would be Miss Cardiff, Miss Wang Xi, Miss Wrexham , Miss Newport, and then those girls would go to yearly pageant to win Miss Wales.

Now out of the four girls that go to Miss World, Miss Scotland, Miss Wales, Miss Northern Ireland, Miss England, out of those four girls, the girls that ranks the highest in the competition, so for instance if Miss Scotland made the top 5 of the top 12, the girl that ranks the highest automatically becomes the Miss United Kingdom. So that's how to become Miss United Kingdom as opposed to Miss Great Britain. .
