If you think positively, you will feel positive, which will go a long way towards boosting your confidence and public persona.
Hello, my name is Michael Ronayne, I am the Director of the College of Public Speaking and I'm going to be talking about different aspects of public speaking. How to exude confidence, well, the key word in there is "exude", because there is a big difference between exuding confidence and just seeming quietly self-contained, confident, capable, knows what he's doing. The implication by exuding confidence is a very active thing to be doing.
You're trying to make an impression, you're trying to give people the idea that you are really in control of whatever you are doing, and you're the expert, you are the man to go to. Now, if you want to exude confidence, you got to act confident. So maybe look at people who are confident.
Imagine yourself, and this is a little game I play sometimes, what would I look like if I felt more confident than I felt at the moment? What would I be saying? What would I be doing? People who exude confidence hold very good eye contact. They probably take the initiative. So if you're in a room with other people, you'd be more likely to say, "Hello, my name is.
", rather than waiting for people to come to you.
They're also inclined to walk faster, to have a purpose to them in everything they do. Now, you can't emanate what's not inside, so another key element to exuding confidence is talking to yourself. Talking to yourself well.
You need to make sure, if you want to exude confidence, that you're saying all the right things to yourself. You can't exude confidence at the same time be thinking, "I feel nervous, I feel so scared." You need to be saying to yourself, "I feel fine, I feel great.
What I've got to say, people are going to look forward to listening to this. I've got a fantastic message, people are going to want to hear this. I feel confident in what I'm doing, I look tremendous, everything is going to be fantastic.
" Now years ago, when Mohamed Ali first started all this business and saying, "I'm the greatest, and I can beat him in this round and I can do that", the reaction from the public was, "What a bighead!" But the point is, he wasn't talking to you, he was talking to himself. He was making sure his head was right, and the only way he could do that was to talk to himself positively. If you talk positive, you will feel positive, and you will go a long, long way down the road to starting to exude that confidence that will make you seem like a magnet and will bring people to you for that confidence. .
