Hello, my name is Sarah McAllister. I am the founding director of Feng Shui Agency. I'm delighted to give you some general tips but please note they are not substituting a professional Feng Shui consultant's advice.

So, here are a few tips on Feng Shui mirrors. It's one of the most commonly asked questions when I'm on a residential consultation; where should I put these mirrors? Generally, you want to make sure that the mirror is not reflecting anything negative, such as a disused building across the road from the house or a skip outside or dust bins etc. You want the mirror to reflect something positive.

In general, you need to put mirrors in the south east, the south, the east and sometimes the north east. Those are the best places. If a mirror is quite small we don't have to worry about it too much.

It's mirrors that are larger than a meter by a meter that we need to place with a bit more consciousness because they have a little bit more power in terms of the light reflecting and energy reflecting capability. Mirrors in the bedroom are sometimes unavoidable. They're not the best placed in the bedroom, however most people do want to have some sort of vanity mirror over the dressing table or near the wardrobe so the best place to put mirrors in a bedroom is actually inside the wardrobe doors, so you can shut them away at night.

Try not to have those sliding, mirrored wardrobe doors because it's very difficult to get away from the reflection when you're in bed to see yourself. Now mirrors can also be used to stimulate activity in an office, so again, put them in a place where they are either in the east, south east, south or north east and have them reflecting good views or meeting rooms or positive art and symbols; you may have artwork in the office. Put the mirror somewhere that has a nice view.

Don't put the mirror too close to the main door because they can be reflecting Chi out of the door and you don't want that. You want to be welcoming in Chi rather than deflecting it out. Try to make sure the mirrors don't reflect the door of a toilet because that's just not pleasant.

You don't want to double up because what mirrors do is they double up things, don't they? You don't want to double up anything negative something that's negative so try not to have a mirror opposite a whole range of filing cabinets. It's just going to increase your paper work. Try to keep mirrors with beautiful views or positive views of good imagery. .
