How To Figure Gpa
This video demonstrates how to calculate the grade point average. The GPA is the aggregate of all the points earned by a student in his exams.
Here, we are going to figure a GPA. A GPA is a grade point average and it tells you what your average score was across all your exams. So let's have a look at how this works.
A GPA assigns a point score to every grade that you get. The grade that you normally get will be A, B, C, D and F and under the four-point scale, an A is worth 4 and the F is worth 0, the others are numbers in between. So if you want us to look at an example, so we had a student that got an A, a B and a C.
What would his grade point average be? First, we need to work out the point for each example. The A would be worth 4, the B would be worth 3, the C would be worth 2. So, his total point score would be 9.
Now, a GPA is like saying if he got exactly the same mark in every exam, what would that mark be to give you your final score of nine? Like, I can see in this example, it's quite straightforward. A 3 in every exam would give me a result of nine. And I could have calculated that by saying 9 is the total number of points divided the number of exams I have had.
I just had three exams. So that's how I came up with my GPA. But what does a GPA mean.
Well, a grade point average of three means essentially, the student is an average grade B across all exams, even though he may have got some A's or C's, maybe even an A or a B. On an average, the grade was B. .
