Filet crochet is a way of crocheting motifs with empty squares and filled in squares on a grid pattern. Bee Clinch, crochet and craft tutor at Makedomenders, shows you how to do the two stitches required in this step by step guide.

You will Need

  • 1 crochet hook
  • yarn

Method

Start with a turning chain of 3 chains to represent the treble, and 1 chain to represent the chain space. Treble into the next treble from the hook, then make a chain. Continue in the same way, making a treble above the last treble, and a chain for a space.

To make the filled in block for motifs: treble into the empty square below, then make a treble into the next treble from the hook.

You can make any patterns and motifs you like out of empty grid spaces and filled in blocks.
