Today, we're going to have a look at how to fill out a cheque. First of all, you'll need to put in the top line who the cheque is actually to, including their full surname. If it's a business, you might need to put "Limited" at the end.

Put the number, in words, underneath who the cheque is payable to. So for example, fifty four pounds, you would write in words, "Fifty four pounds". If there are no pence in the amount of money that you are paying, put "only" at the end.

So, for example, "Fifty four pounds only". Make sure that you sign the cheque at the bottom, and put the digits with the amount that you're actually paying into the box on the right-hand side. For your own records, there is a tab on the left-hand side with a perforated line.

You can fill this in to remind yourself who the payment is to, what date you made the payment, and how much for. Okay, so I'm going to fill in the check. I'm going to pay Mr.

Joe Bloggs, and I owe Mr. Joe Bloggs fifty-four pounds. Make sure that you draw a line through the rest of the box.

So I'll put in fifty four pounds only. Make sure you strike through any lines that you're not writing in. The date is the fourth of March, 2011, and sign it at the bottom.

And that is how to fill out a cheque. Even in the age of credit and debit cards, it's often necessary to make payments by writing a cheque on your bank account. You can do so by following the instructions in this simple tutorial.
