How To Find A Back Pain Specialist
For back pain relief, physiotherapist Dirk Laubscher explains the best methods of contacting a specialist with whom to discuss your back pain problems, including word of mouth, internet research and recommendations from doctors and therapists.
My name is Dirk Laubscher, and I've been a physiotherapist for over the last ten years, and I've been working on Harley Street for the last six, and today I'm going to talk to you guys about the causes and the management of back pain. How to find a back pain specialist. Now, since I've been on Harley Street for six years and this whole street is full of specialists, medical professional people, and there are probably hundreds of back pain specialists in this street, so I think it's a very difficult thing sometimes to choose one that you would like to see.
My recommendation how to choose one is always try to go on recommendation, so maybe let your physiotherapist tell you about them, or your GP if you have. You have a great relationship with your GP because what we do as therapists is we build relationships with people over years, so if someone asked me, one of my patients asked me who is a very good back specialist, I've got a good about five to ten that I know of in this area, which I know, which I've actually met, and I've got a relationship with them which I would recommend. I would even go to them myself.
So, I think recommendation is probably the best, the best way to go. Also, when you've been recommended to this person, try and find out everything you can about them, the internet is a great tool for that, just Google their name, and go on their website. Again, if you have questions, call the person up and ask them specifically.
I know most of these back pain specialists in this area, and especially, probably wherever you are as well, would love to talk to you and to discuss basically your problem with them and how they can help you. Okay, so internet, very good talk, and do your research, recommendation, I would say is the best, also word of mouth, I think everyone knows someone who knows someone who's been to someone with back pain, so just do your homework. Unfortunately, there are also quite a lot of specialists out there who are obviously not as good as others and it's important that you always try and get a second opinion.
Okay, so, actually vital to get a second opinion, don't just go with the first one, make sure you see at least two or three to make your decision to whom you want to go and see. Right, if you don't want to see like an orthopedic surgeon like myself, I'm also sort of classified as a back pain specialist, I don't do surgery, but I do spinal rehabilitation, mobilization, and sometimes back pain can be fixed by just seeing a good physiotherapist who has also been treating backs and necks for many years. Again, it's important that you know that they're just not merely qualified but they have a track record and that they have testimonies is also a good thing, which you can have a look at their websites and that's how I would recommend that you would find someone. .
