Finding the best childcare is top priority among working parents or parents who need that extra help looking after their children. In this Videojug film, you will receive a list of options of the various types of people who can assist you in caring for your baby or child, along with quick explanations of what it is that they can do for you.
Hi, I'm Laura Campbell from Baby Ladies and I'm going to be giving you some tips on how to look after your newborn and how to achieve the best that you want. Extra help with your baby: if you feel that you need a little bit more help and you haven't got the family support, people around you, there are lots of different agencies that can help you and there are lots of different types of people. So, you can get a night nurse that can come and help you during the night to get that extra bit of sleep and then also help you with setting up routines.
Also, a maternity nurse can do the same thing, can either live with you or live out. A nanny can also help you and it's generally for a little bit older children. It means that you can go back to work and you can have the nanny living with you.
Another alternative is an au pair, and an au pair is somebody that would come over, stay with your family, would maybe want to learn some more English or is looking to carrying on studying. So, it's not someone who has sole care of your child but it's someone who can be there and give you that extra bit of support. There are lots and lots of different ways that you can have your child care structured.
You could maybe get in with the local nursery. A good tip is, as soon as you have your birth certificate, to go and get your child on the list at your local nursery because places are sometimes quite difficult to get. So you want to be ahead of the game with that, especially if you're returning to work.
There's lots of help out there for helping you to look after your baby. .
