Okay, welcome to how to choose judo suits. Now, it's important to choose the right suit so that you're comfortable and that you can execute all your techniques in the proper fashion. Did you get the word there? Fashion.

So, check it out. I'm going to start with the trousers here. Now, with judo, you'll notice that the material is quite thick.

Now, we've got reinforced knee pads here because a lot of the techniques are starting in the kneeling position. You'll notice that the trouser leg here falls just past the ankle. This is to allow some movement when bending the knees to keep it nice and flexible around the joints.

You don't want it to be too tight but you don't want it to be too loose. Now, with juniors, you would know they grow fast, it is possible to take the trousers up either on the outside or the inside and let them down as they get taller. But we don't need to do that with you.

Okay, moving on then to the gi now, place the gi on. You will notice here, it looks as if it's quite heavy, it's quite a tough looking gi. It is thick and it has – if you just turn around – it has this weave going on here.

About halfway down, you'll find that it is tough and durable, slightly different to the top here. Okay, the reason for that is because it's usually the place that you land on first so it's much tougher. Turn around again.

You've got this reinforced tough bit here which is used for grabbing hold of, okay, in judo, when we throw people around, break their balance, you're going to hold on to these here. Alright, take a look at the sleeves. Again, there's this lining here which is slightly tougher fro holding on to.

The material here is thick, not too tight, not too loose, enough to bend the arms, enough to forwards and back and execute different moves there. The fit itself is similar to what I've said about the arms and legs, really. You don't want it too loose and you don't want it too tight.

As it comes around here, left over right, there is enough range of movement here to put the arms up into the air without this slipping up, okay. So, the gi size needs to be – you need to be able to do that. Show again.

That there. now, of course, you're not going to get somebody to hold it with your hand, you're going to have belt. So, check it out.

Unfortunately, you don't get one of these when you first start, it's going to be white. Place it around the body here, left over right, again nice and tight, but with a little bit of movement still in there, okay. Once the belt goes on, it should hold everything in place, okay.

Now, as we go forward and back, pulling tight on here, you'll notice that the gi kind of stays in the same position here. That's perfect. What we don't want is to be coming out after or about all over the place here.

So, the key factors here are to make sure that it fits you well. Always check if they're pre-shrunk before you buy them because otherwise, when you put it through its first wash, it's going to shrink. Okay, if that's the case, always buy a size bigger.

Measure yourself. Measure your body. It's usually done in centimetres.

Check it out and always go for a low quality gi first, get used to it and then when you need to renew your gi, after you've successfully done a few belts and got into judo a bit more, you can go for a much more high quality, high price range. Okay, I hope that helps. How to choose a judo gi. .
