How To Find The Right Job For You

Put your dreams to work and gain insight into the best possible career path for you. What is it you really love to do? You can make your strengths your best asset toward obtaining your career goals.

So, today, we're going to be talking about how to find the right job for you. Really important, because given that you spend the most of your life at work, probably spend more time at work than anywhere else. I personally feel it really is important to do that, find the right career for you, because essentially, you know, having fulfilling work is a good part of having a fulfilling life.

So, the place to start is really put your past experience, put the jobs you've done to date all to one side, shove them out of the way, and just take a blank slate and look at “What do I love? What lights my fire? What am I really excited and passionate about? What are my interests?” And really begin that personal exploration of what do I love. And then we can start to look at, on the second phase, how do you make money doing that? So, really spend a bit of time. You can do exercises like write an A4 page of, like, my ideal working day.

And you can do a second version of that, which is my ideal life, which talks a little bit more about not just the work, but how your work fits into your overall context of your whole life. It's all about getting that work/life balance right as well. Focus on things that, you know, what are my kind of career hot buttons? What's important for me? Is it security? Is it independence? Is it being seen as an expert? Is it having more autonomy and being left more to follow my own profit work? All of those things are important to explore in that first phase.

Once you've got really clear and kind of boiled all of that down to its kind of core, key most important parts, then it's a case of bringing back your expertise, your kind of current training, your qualifications, and all of the things you've done already, and finding that match, and then starting to build a bridge from where you are now to that ideal, right job for you. And that might involve some retraining, might learning some new skills. It might take six months.

It might take six years. It's about really kind of getting focused on, you know, what it is ideally that you want, that you would love to do, and then finding out the way to get paid for that, matching your expertise with that kind of future career and building those action steps in and those goals step by step, bit by bit, so that, you know, week by week, month by month, year by year, you're moving towards that ideal job for you, over time, and hopefully you're even enjoying that growth process of moving along the way. Sometimes, it might not feel fast enough, but it really is about then just staying committed, staying consistent, and getting help and support together as fast as you can.
