How To Fold A Dress Shirt Napkin

Napkin folding is a skilful art which has to be done carefully and with a lot of interest. There are many books available on the art of napkin folding.

Hi. My name is Luigi and I'm the maestro on the art of napkin folding. What we're doing today is demonstration on the napkin which comes from my book, The Luigi's Language of Napkin Folding.

What we're doing now is the dress shirt. Now, the dress shirt is ideally to be used on its own and it could also be used if you do it in something smaller to be inserted inside the jacket. And in the book, there are several jackets, 'The Jacket' in the book; there are several jackets where this shirt could be applied to.

So now we're starting, we take a napkin and we have to fold this in the centre. Also I have to say this, this is the best way to learn how to do a shirt because all shirts where the collars are, they all actually work exactly the same way, and the principle is the same. With the other section and what we're doing in this section, I'll put this side, we actually fold it like this, put it there and then we fold it to the center and you have got the beginning of a dress shirt.

See that, okay? So left the best part of it for the collar and this I believe is the best one. So what we'll do now is we fold it this way, and that will be the beginning of the collar. And then, we turn it over.

And now we're going to do the collar which is this section here. You can see it. Now, this is very important in here that when you actually make this turn over the collar that you have, that this line in here gets parallel to the center and to here, you will see why afterwards.

So what you've got now is the collar. Okay, I will put a knife in here just to give it support. Then what I'll do now is I will take this section, just fold it on top of it.

Take the little bow tie I've got and I will put the bow tie in such a way over here and don't try to pull the cord, the cord will tie around there, just leave it underneath there and we take this and we go right to the top of it. Now, you can see here there is an opening so they go inside there and the other opening is in there, they go inside there. And you got a dress shirt.

Now I've done this in advance with a, actually with a gentleman's handkerchief but you can also use a paper napkin and this is the one which will go inside the dinner jacket or any other jacket that we do with the fold. .
