Step 1: Fold after ironing

For best results, begin folding immediately after ironing.

Step 2: Button

Lay the shirt on a flat surface.
Fasten every button on the shirt. Turn it over with the buttons facing down and smooth it out until it's perfectly flat.

Step 3: Fold one side

Fold one side of the shirt over towards the middle so there is a vertical fold that runs from the middle of the shoulder. Bring the sleeve over too.

Step 4: Fold the sleeve

Fold the sleeve back from the shoulder, then fold it the other way from about a third of the way down, and fold the cuff back again to create a concertina effect.

Step 5: Fold the other side

Now fold the other side of the shirt over to the middle and the sleeve back down over the folded part. The sleeve should be vertical with the cuff parallel to the bottom of the shirt.

Step 6: Fold the bottom up

Next, fold the bottom of the shirt over, together with the cuff towards the centre of the shirt so it reaches halfway up.
Then fold this bottom half over again so it reaches the collar.

To reduce creasing, lay a sheet of tissue paper over the shirt before folding and fold as normal. This will cushion the folds to prevent the fabric from creasing.

freakin awful mate! you didn't even fold where the iron crease is.

He should use a ShirtStar (shirtstar.co.uk). I have one and the shirts come out with no visible creases after packing.

I notice that all these who criticize this method have said how the shirt would look if it were folded in this fashion, not how it looked after it had been folded. I always fold my shirts this way when travelling abroad & rarely need to ask staff to iron them when I unpack.

that right sleeve is gonna look like it was straight out of the laundry basket - no ironing, no nothing... not a good job...

Tip Top: After unfolding the shirt iron it again

I think this shirt will end up less wrinkled after trying to fold it in the T-shirt folding machine. I am still not convinced WHY on earth this should be the best way. Why bother ironing at all?

all the previous comments sound as if they came from men who've never tried to iron and fold a shirt. Believe me, this works, although I prefer to lay the sleeve straight down rather than concertina them. Of course you can put them on a hanger, but if you want to travel folding a shirt is essential when you are packing
