Frozen zucchinis are best to be used in cooking and they are really healthy food! These simple steps will show you how to make your own frozen zucchinis!
Hello. Today, I'm going to show you how to freeze a zucchini. Or if you are in the UK, of course, you know it as a courgette.
Now, first of all, you have to know that you got to blanch your zucchini before you freeze it, and this stops certain enzymes in the zucchini and it keeps it fresher and tastier for longer when you've frozen it. So, we start off with washing our zucchini and picking organic if you possibly can. We like to simply have these in small bite size chunks, really easy to chop off as well, and top and tail, so get rid of those bits, and then naturally just take your zucchini over to the saucepan.
Of course, you can do as much zucchini as you like really. We're just going to one today, and you need to bring it to the boil as quickly as you possibly can. So we're going to add some boiling water to pan now, just enough to cover the top of the vegetable.
So, the zucchini has been cooking now for about 5 minutes. But just check it earlier, and it looks absolutely fine. You can stab it a few times with a short knife to make sure it's nice and soft.
Now, the trick now is to get your cooked zucchini out and simply add it too some cold water. Leave it in the cold water for couple of minutes till the temperature has gone down, and then we pop it in the ice water where it really get obviously very cold very, very quickly. Zucchinis are really popular in Egypt, in France, in Spain.
They are also really super naturally grated raw so you can eat them raw. Now, when you feel they are cold, then pop them into a freezer bag, where they will store very nicely for very long time. Then you can leave them to defrost and add them to soups or stir fries.
Or if you do cook with them frozen, obviously, remember that when you are cooking, because they take a lot longer to cook, get the air out of the freezer bag, wrap up and pop it in your freezer! So the tip for when you are freezing your zucchini, if you are going to be freezing a lot of different items, is just write the date that you've frozen the vegetable on the freezer bag and then at least, you could keep track of when things are frozen. There you go, a really easy way to freeze zucchinis! .
