How To French Braid Pigtails
In this video, you will be shown a demonstration of how to French braid pigtails and you will be given tips so that you can learn to do this hairstyle on your own!
Hi, and welcome to the Braiding Lounge Academy. My name's Lauralyn. We're going to be demonstrating some techniques on different hairstyles today on Afro hair and European hair.
Okay, I'm about to show you how to do two French braids in natural hair or two French braid pigtails as sometimes it is referred to. So here we go. You start with a single plait at the top, as you would do for a normal free-strand braid.
And as you can see, I've got my hands at a right angle to the scalp. You are folding the hair in as you're continuing down the back of the head. Always be sure to try to take even sections from both sides of the braid.
This adds to the neatness as well as the security of the braid, and keeps it consistent. Again try to keep your hands at a right angle to the scalp. This will prevent you from pulling from the front of the head.
And you would do what I say is braid every single plait, so you're not going to try and raise the hairs and raise further down the back of the head and you're going to take your section of hair from side to side. Not from below, not from above. At this point, you may feel the need to brush out the ends of the hair.
Feel free to do so and continue the free-strand cornrow braid to the end. And then it will develop into a single free-strand braid, while you'll continue all the way down to the end of the hair. And as with before, if you feel the need to split one side to the other side to make it a bit thicker to keep the braid consistent, feel free to do so.
And you want to braid all the way down until there is insufficient hair to braid. And then just twist it with your two fingers. Okay, so that's my example of the French braid, or the French braid pigtails as they are sometimes referred to.
Okay, and as you can see, I started to begin the braid the same way it's just that it's a bigger portion of hair you're working with. You start with a single plait and plait twice before you lay your hand flat and begin to add in from the side the same as you would do normally. At the end of the cornrow, you continue to braid down in the same manner as which you were shown for the single plait, the outside strand over the inside strand.
And you continue that all the way down to the end of the braid. .
