Self-image and self-confidence play a contributing role in our success in life and our self-actualization as individuals. This video demonstrates a series of methods in which negative thinking/beliefs about oneself can be turned around into positive affirmations about one's self-worth and abilities.
Hello. I'm Ben Huss, I'm a certified hypnotherapist, based in Holy Stream, London, and I'm going to be showing you how to unlock your potential. I'm going to share with you one of the techniques we use to help you be more self-confident, by transforming that old, negative thinking into a more confident, positive mindset.
Often, we are our own worst enemy, allowing that voice inside our heads to criticize and de-motivate us. Maybe it says, 'I can't do that,' or 'you're not good enough.' Now, some of these we may have picked up from parents when we were younger or from someone important to us.
Now, these beliefs were passed on to us with love, but they end up lowering our self-esteem. I'm going to show you a technique which changes that voice from being an inner critic to being an inner coach. It is amazing what you can achieve when you realize you have control over your thoughts.
It's interesting that when you ask yourself a question, your brain will always give you an answer. For example, if you said to yourself, 'why am I such a loser?' you will get an answer, but if you ask yourself, 'why am I such a great guy?' you will also get an answer for that. So, this is a way to take those old beliefs and transform them and turn them around into something really empowering.
Grab a pen and paper, and think of a specific area in your life where you're having difficulties and nagging beliefs. Good. Write them all down.
For example, it might be, 'I can't do that,' or 'I'm not good enough.' Next, look at each of these beliefs, and try and see if you can find what the positive intention behind those were. Perhaps it was trying to keep you safe somehow.
Now, think of a new belief, a positive belief, which you like instead, which would be much more beneficial to you. For example, 'I can do this,' or 'I'm more than good enough.' Great.
Now, we're going to turn these statements into a question, into a positive, affirming question. So, an example of this might be: 'Why am I so good at this?' or 'Why do I find this so easy to do?' Great. Now, review this list every day, perhaps for the next two weeks, and whenever you find yourself having these negative thoughts, immediately just run through this exercise in your head, and get those positive questions.
And automatically, you will start getting those positive feelings, and transforming those thoughts into a much more positive mindset. And this will help you gain self-confidence. .
