It takes a lot of time to work out which particular rifle goes with which particular pistol. But spend that time and really get to know those weapons, because it will pay off. Perhaps the most important thing to get better at in Halo 3 is the hand-to-hand melee combat.

There will be lots of times when a beginner player will be trying to shoot and expert, and they will simply wade in and hit them, and in a couple of blows, they'll have won. What you need to understand is that there are a lot of different factors that come into play when you go to hit another player in Halo. Your movement and your speed and your height in relation to the player you're hitting has an effect.

So if you're jumping down on someone, and you hit them with your gun, that will do much more damage. Another aspect is, if you're carrying a really big gun, or if you're carrying a rocket launcher and you hit someone with that, Halo knows that, and applies much more damage to them. So that could be a really good way to get much better at Halo 3.

The final skill that I invite you to practice for Halo 3, and this is true for most first-person shooters, is sniping. Now, this requires not just accuracy, but also patience and knowledge of the maps. Once you find a good spot, you can really camp down, and rack up a really high kill count.
